Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has married model Stacey Munro, his long-time fiancée and the mother of his daughter.
McCarthy, 36, and Munro, 29, have a one-year-old daughter, Lima Rose.
According to the City Press website, the couple said ‘I do’ in Stacey’s home country of Scotland over the weekend.
McCarthy’s family flew in from South Africa and joined the duo in Edinburgh for the fancy affair, which saw McCarthy don traditional Scottish attire in the form of a kilt.
It is expected that the newlyweds will continue to live in Edinburgh, but visit Cape Town regularly.
McCarthy grew up in Hanover Park on the Cape Flats and holds the record for international goals by a South African. He was the first African footballer to appear on the cover of TIME magazine in 2002.
Having played for Ajax Amsterdam, Orlando Pirates, Blackburn Rovers, FC Porto and West Ham United, McCarthy has achieved local and international career success. Since retiring last year, McCarthy has expressed his ambitions to become a coach.
