Benni spoilt for choice

Johannesburg - Three Premier League clubs are chasing Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy, according to the player's agent.

McCarthy is believed to be keen on a move away from Ewood Park after dropping down the pecking order in Sam Allardyce's plans.

The former Porto man has made just four Premier League starts this season and is keen on finding a new club to boost his chances of making South Africa's squad for next summer's World Cup finals.

Fulham and Portsmouth have been credited with an interest in McCarthy in the past and the striker's representative, Ivan Modia, revealed McCarthy plans talks with Blackburn in the next few weeks to thrash out his future.

"We have dealt with Blackburn well over the last three years and never had any problems. It is the same now, there is no problem with Benni," Modia told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"We just want to talk to John Williams or Sam Allardyce over the next couple of weeks to find out their plans for Benni. We don't know whether they intend to sell him or not.

"Benni just wants to be playing to help his chances of playing in the World Cup. If he is going to get that chance at Blackburn, of course he is happy to stay.

"There are three Premier League clubs and clubs abroad who we know are interested in him though. Whatever happens we are sure it will be best for all parties involved."
