Benni sorry for red card

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates veteran striker Benni McCarthy has apologised to the club and fans for bringing the club into disrepute when he collected a red card in a match against SuperSport United in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium, according to a report in The New Age.

The 34-year-old veteran’s moment of madness proved decisive when a spirited SuperSport United thrashed them 3-0.

Said McCarthy via Twitter: “Thanks for all the positive response from u guys, very much appreciated. But still disappointed in my actions. Goodnight all. I’m in debt to our fans, will make up for 2nyt disaster by making sure we are successful in all other competitions. My sincere apology.”

He continued: “What a nightmare game, my actions killed the team. I’m really sorry to my team and our fans for getting sent off and costing us the game.”
