Banyana ready for Cyprus Cup

Johannesburg - Banyana Banyana are hoping to improve on last year's 10th place finish at the 12-nation Cyprus Women's Cup, according to central defender Refiloe Jane.

Banyana will start their campaign against South Korea in Larnaca on Tuesday, followed by Group C fixtures against Ireland and Northern Ireland.

“We are looking forward to this tournament and are working really hard to better our results,” Jane said on Tuesday.

The South African women's side secured a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in a friendly match at the weekend and Jane believed they were on the right track to shine at the tournament.

“We have been preparing well for the game against South Korea," Jane said.

“The practice match against New Zealand was really good and we could see what we have to work on in order to do well this year.

“Korea play good football and have the same style as New Zealand. We have been analysing them and have come up with a game plan."

Jane said they were ready for the challenges they faced at the annual tournament, and would play to their strengths to achieve the desired results.

“We have a normal passing game and let the ball do all the running. We have pace and good players,” the defender said.

“You win a game by scoring goals and that's what we want to do. We need to attack more and close down our opponents."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
