Cape Town - Bafana Bafana have moved up two places in the latest FIFA world rankings, announced on Thursday.
This is a bitter-sweet achievement, as Bafana's head coach Shakes Mashaba was suspended by the South African Football Association (SAFA) after the team's 2-1 victory over Senegal in their 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier.
Assistant coach Owen Da Gama has taken temporary charge of Bafana, as Mashaba's disciplinary hearing is set for Thursday, December 1.
The South Africans sit 11th in Africa, with Burkina Faso breaking into the top 10.
Meanwhile, Brazil have risen to No 2 in the FIFA rankings behind Argentina, with South American teams taking three of the top four spots.
After failing to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon, South Africa's next scheduled competitive fixture is in August next year when they continue their quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Bafana travel to the Cape Verde Islands on August 28, 2017 with the return leg set five days later on September 2.
