Mathoho set for FIFA hearing, could face lengthy ban

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana defender Eric Mathoho is expected to attend a FIFA hearing next month following his red card against Cape Verde.

The lanky Kaizer Chiefs player was named in the South Africa squad to face Burkina Faso in a 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier.

Whether or not the 27-year-old gets to represent the nation against the West African side, all depends if his one-match suspension is lifted.

However, the hearing could even determine a lengthier ban for the defender because of the nature of the incident.

Mathoho was off the field when he was caught kicking the opponent and headed to the dressing room for an early shower after being shown a red card.

Meanwhile, Stuart Baxter will be looking to get Bafana Bafana's qualifying campaign back on track when they welcome Burkina Faso to the FNB Stadium.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 7.

Kick off is at 15:00.
