Mashaba calls on Nhlapo to replace Coetzee

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has called up Platinum Stars' Isaac Nhlapo for injured Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee.

According to KickOff, the defender has been called upon after Coetzee pulled his hamstring in an Absa Premiership clash against Cape Town City two weeks ago.

The delay in the decision made was because Bafana Bafana medical wanted to access Coetzee themselves before replacing the teenager.

“We have Rivaldo, [who] had a hamstring injury and his scan shows that he can’t actually travel with us, and the coach has subsequently replaced him,” said Bafana doctor Thulani Ngwenya.

South Africa will travel to Burkina Faso for their first Group D clash on Saturday, October 8 at Stade Du 4 Auot in Ouagadougou.

The match is scheduled to start at 20:00 (SA time).

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, October 11 Mashaba's charges face Ghana in an international friendly at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Kick-off for that match is at 19:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
