Zuma pays tribute to Madigage

2012-10-19 11:42

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has paid tribute Thomas Madigage, assistant coach to Bafana Bafana, who died in a car crash.

Madigage, assistant coach to South Africa's national football team Bafana Bafana, died in a car crash late Thursday, police confirmed.

"Madigage passed away last night between 22:00 and midnight," said police spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi.

"It was an accident. He was alone," Mulaudzi said on Friday. "There was a stray donkey that was crossing the road."

The 40-year-old Madigage was declared dead on the scene.

Bafana coach Gordon Igesund appointed the former national midfielder as assistant coach in July.

"Tommy Madigage is without a doubt the most successful assistant coach in this country in the last 10 years," Igesund said at the time.

He played for Switzerland's FC Zurich from 1995 to 1996 and several national clubs before his retirement in 2002.

President Jacob Zuma said his death was a loss to the nation.

"On the field we remember his speed and agility as well as the ability to shoot and score from a very long distance," said Zuma in a statement.

After this Madigage worked as assistant coach at local club SuperSport United until July, helping the team win several league titles.

News of the popular trainer's death shocked the country on Friday, with tributes pouring in on radio news and social media.

"We are shocked and at a loss for words," said South African Football Association president Kirsten Nematandani in a statement.

You are the one who is seeking for attention here. This is not the platform to raise your fights with Pres. Zuma, he is doing what a reasonable person will do and clearly you are an idiot and lack reasoning.

@lvhukeya1… Maybe you are the owner of that donkey that caused accident or that donkey is your brother because you look like a donkey…

Even though this isn't the platform to have a go at JZ it's obvious that he's milking the sentiment of his usual voters as there were no words of sympathy from him or his office when Corrie Sanders was gunned down a hero. Even though this has got f@@kall to do with race it's always about race and appealing to certain voters when it comes to the cANCer leadership.

I think you are lost, this is not a revolutionary house but a page to express your condolenses for a deseased fellow South African.
