Zuma chuffed with Bafana

London - President Jacob Zuma has extended his praise to Bafana Bafana following their qualification for the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Equatorial Guinea.

Bafana defeated Sudan 2-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday to book a place in next year’s continental showpiece for the first time since 2008.

Zuma, 72, believes Bafana’s progress will not go unnoticed and they will be a team to watch going forward.

“Bafana Bafana is a completely changed team,” Zuma said via a televised interview on SABC.

“They now qualify for major tournaments through their hard work.

“It’s not by chance or hosting for that matter.

“We are very happy as a country and I think we’ll never go back again to the wilderness.

“And I’m also sure that Bafana Bafana is something that people must watch going forward.”

Although Shakes Mashaba’s team have already booked their place in the 30th edition of the continental tournament, they still have to complete their marathon when they face Nigeria at the Uyo International Stadium on Wednesday.

Heading into this encounter, Nigeria need a win and also hope that Congo drop points in their last encounter against Sudan.

Kick-off is set for 19:00 (SA time).
