Shakes Mashaba was cornered after most PSL teams were reluctant to give any of their first team players for the Nelson Mandela Challenge against Ivory Coast.

The coach opted to choose younger inexperienced players but who were surprisingly impressive on the afternoon as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over The Elephants

According to KickOff, Sangweni admits that he was surprised  to given the honour to wear the captains armband.

“I was happy for a chance to play for the national team you know and to captain the side was just beyond my expectations,” said Sangweni.

“That’s up to the coach to decide but I think we did well and showed our readiness to do the job on the field.

“I was comfortable on the ball, not because of being a better player but my teammates helped a lot as well.”
