'Tico Tico' tips Bafana to lose

Cape Town - Mozambican striker, Manuel José Luís Bucuane, believes South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are overrated and has predicted a win for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Sunday’s decisive 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan) game.

Bucuane, popularly known as Tico Tico scored 27 times 83 appearances for Mozambique between 1995 and 2010.

The Mozambican legend believes “struggling” Bafana Bafana will not find things straightforward when they come up against the Super Eagles in their third and final preliminary game against the West African giants.

“South African is not doing so well at the Chan and are struggling as well. Yes, they beat Mozambique 3-1 but we still don’t know how they managed to achieve that against us,” he told reporters in Cape Town.

The 40-year-old added that the South Africans were extremely lucky to escape defeat against Mali in their second group game on Wednesday and added that things may get sticky for Gordon Igesund’s men against the Super Eagles on Sunday.

“South Africa couldn’t cope with Mali (the game ended 1-1) and against Nigeria it’s going to be a really difficult game for them.

“They are under pressure. They are playing at home and everybody expects them to qualify (for the quarter finals).

“They didn’t want to go into a third game without having sealed their place in the next round yet so the game against Nigeria is a decisive match,” he said.

A draw on Sunday will be enough for South Africa to seal their place in the last eight but the Super Eagles will be looking for an outright win to advance to the knockout rounds.
