Surprise to be captain - Meyiwa

Cape Town - Senzo Meyiwa reveals that being chosen as Bafana Bafana captain was a surprise but the decision has motivated him to perform even better.

According to KickOff, the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper reveals that it came as a surprise to him that he was given the captains armband.

“The coach was naming his starting line-up and it came as a surprise to me,” Meyiwa said.

“Every player wants to see himself progressing and I consider it a great achievement that I was given the opportunity.

"It was very motivating to me.”

Bafana Bafana secured a 3-0 victory in Khartoum against Sudan courtesy of a Sibusiso Vilakazi brace after being brought on for Keagan Dolly.

Shakes Mashaba’s side face Nigeria on Wednesday, September 10 at Cape Town Stadium. The encounter is set to be fierce as Nigeria search for their first win in the AFCON qualifier after Congo beat African champions 3-2.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
