Sono 'considered' for Bafana

2012-06-15 11:42

Johannesburg - Jomo Cosmos and former Bafana Bafana caretaker coach Jomo Sono was considered for the shortlist of five candidates interviewed for the Bafana Bafana coaching post on Thursday according to KickOff's website.

According to a SAFA insider, Sono was considered a good candidate, even though the suggestion was shot down before the end of the meeting.

“There was a strong belief inside the SAFA technical committee that someone like Jomo would have revived Bafana Bafana fortunes, but the suggestion was rejected at the end,” the source said.

SAFA's technical committee said it was "happy" with the first four interviews for the vacant Bafana Bafana coaching position conducted on Thursday.

Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt, Shakes Mashaba and Neil Tovey all presented with current interim coach, Steve Komphela's date set for next Monday.

Jomo must just give up already and rather stick to management. he must get a proper coach for cosmos and stop being stingy.

      Rob - 2012-06-15 12:55

Jomo coached Bafana before, the best he did was to sell his Jomo Cosmos players to overseas teams, as ll Cosmos players were fielded, did we go to the next round in that World Cup, NO!!!. Gavin Hunt and Gordon are here to be tried, The Black Bafana is always performing bad, then please put Gordon and Hunt to bring urgency and commitment to our selected squad. Please tlogelang Ntate Sono e Cosmos ya gagwe!!

  • thulani.zondi.7 - 2012-06-15 12:47

Jomo track record as bafana coach is impressive. Jomo cosmos as a team and national squad are totally different. Jomo cosmos is a team of youngsters. Jomo is the best coach no matter what.

  • marlin.samuels.1 - 2012-06-15 13:08

Jomo had his chance and he failed dismally, SAFA really have no clue where to start getting their house in order

  • xoli.mabiya - 2012-06-15 13:16

Lets not forget that this guy did not actually apply for the job, SAFA wanted him so really the joke is on the federation that runs our Football, maybe we not only need a new Coach, maybe we need a whole change in the federation because who the hell want this guy guy as coach, the only reason he is still a coach in this country is because the club owner must still fire him, and who owns that club again? Exactly

  • ngoako.mathekga - 2012-06-15 13:18

Jomo was a good player and he is a legend, We should not confuse coaching with one's history as a player. his coaching record at his own team speak for itself. SAFA stop playing.

  • willie.vanzyl.39 - 2012-06-15 13:22

This must be a JOKE as Sono is over the wall his team does badly. This is like the blind leading the Blind

  • chaapo.sithole - 2012-06-15 13:32
