Johannesburg - New Bafana Bafana recruit Davide "Silver Fox" Somma has pledged to contribute to the success of the team, saying his job is to score goals, reports the
Sowetan.
The England-based Somma said he was looking forward to being part of the Bafana squad eager to conquer Africa and later the world.
Somma made an impressive Bafana debut against the US in the Mandela Challenge in Cape Town last month.
The Leeds United target man also walked away with the man of the match award despite not having played a full game since he was replaced in the 60th minute.
Somma, who was born in Johannesburg but raised in the US, has scored seven goals in nine appearances for Leeds.
"My plan is to play well and score goals for Bafana Bafana. I'm happy to have finally tested international football by playing for my country of birth," he said.
"The support I received when I arrived at Bafana Bafana was mind- blowing. I have always wanted to play at national level. Credit should go to Lucas Radebe who facilitated the move to play for Bafana Bafana.
"I know the team has started with the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
"We are now on top on the log in our group and the plan is to remain there until the end of the games."
Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane said: "Davide will definitely add value to Bafana Bafana, especially now that we are busy with the Afcon qualifiers.
"We have a big game against Egypt in March, it's a must-win game. The bigger picture is to qualify for the 2012 and 2013 Afcon finals as well as the 2014 Fifa World Cup."
