Cape Town - After a spate of player withdrawals by their PSL clubs, Bafana Bafana have all but assembled a squad ahead of their CHAN qualifier against Mauritius.
The team had the first, and only, training session on Friday evening at the University of Johannesburg.
Thabang Monare, Pentje Zulu, Kwanda Mngonyama, Musa Nyatama, Madisha Motjeka, Sibusiso Mxoyana, William Twala and Ndumiso Mabena joined up with the squad during the evening training, while Wandisile Letlabika joined later on Friday night.
They will join Itumeleng Khune, Jackson Mabokgwane, Marc Van Heerden, Tshepo Gumede, Sphelele Ntshangase, Gift Motupa, Vuyisile Wana, Bonginkosi Ntuli and Thamsanqa Gabuza, who were part of the original squad.
There was no word regarding Keagan Dolly, who earlier in the day Ajax Cape Town had announced had been called up to the squad too.
Shakes Mashaba said that despite the challenges they’ve faced to assemble the squad, the team wanted to prove themselves, and warned Mauritius not to take them lightly.
“There are those who when they hear the news of the challenges will be more motivated to come and play, and have more energy because the opponents are not organised,” Mashaba said.
“But at the same time it is a danger to them if they think because we have struggled to assemble a team the match will be a walk in the park, they are making a big mistake.
“These boys will also want to do well and hoist high the South African flag.”
