According to KickOff, the 64-year-old confirms that even if injured Itumeleng Khune were to be in the squad that he would continue his rotation policy in order “to make complete players.”

“If we are going to rely on one person as a captain that will give us problems,” said Mashaba.

“We will rotate the captaincy, the reason being that we are trying to make complete players. The question of the captain, we are trying to look at players that can do it.”

Senzo Meyiwa was selected as captain for the first two games under the new Mashaba reign which he lead South Africa to a 3-0 win against Sudan in Khartoum and a goalless draw against Nigeria in Cape Town.

It is now speculated that Mashaba is to hand the responsibility to another player in Bafana’s back-to-back AFCON qualifying clashes against Congo.

Bafana Bafana will depart on Thursday afternoon for Point-Noire, the Republic of Congo's second largest city after its capital Brazzaville.

The match will be played on an artificial surface at the Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire.

They return to South Africa on Sunday, ahead of next week's return fixture against the Red Devils in Polokwane.

Bafana Bafana fixtures:

Saturday, October 11, Congo v SA (Pointe Noire) - 16:30

Wednesday, October 15, SA v Congo (Peter Mokaba Stadium) - 20:05

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
