Serero gutted by AFCON snub

Cape Town - Thulani Serero admits he was dejected to learn he had not made the final 23-man Bafana Bafana squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, but feels it could be a blessing in disguise for his club career.

The Ajax Amsterdam midfielder was a surprise omission from Shakes Mashaba's team headed to next year's Equatorial Guinea showpiece, which takes place from January 17 to February 8.

And while Serero was disappointed to have missed out on Africa's biggest tournament, the winger is ready to knuckle down with Ajax as they look ahead to the second-half of the European campaign.

"I am very sorry that I was not selected," Serero told his club's official website.

"The African Nations Cup is a special tournament and I'd liked to have played for my country."

He continued: "Now I will flip the switch and focus entirely on Ajax. There are a number of important contests after the winter break and I will give my full focus."
