The attacking midfielder has represented Bafana at both U-19 and U-23 level and was part of Carlos Alberto Parreira's training squad in Brazil prior to the World Cup.
With Pitso Mosimane set to announce his squad on Wednesday that will do duty against Sierra Leone in around two weeks time, Serero believes he will be ready to step up, should he receive the call.
He told Sunshine Press: "I was exposed to Bafana Bafana intensive training programme.
"And getting tips from all those senior players has done wonders to my confidence and I am sure that I can play a key role in the team if selected," said Serero.
"The reason why some of us fail to crack it in the senior team is because we don't really know what happens at junior level as we are quite often not exposed to international competition at youth level."
"I know it's not easy, the competition is stiff," he added.
"There are far too many talented players in South Africa. But former national coach Parreira taught me a lot of things and I am already applying them at club level."
