Serero: Bafana needed this win

Cape Town - Following their impressive win over Angola, Bafana Bafana’s attacking midfielder Thulani Serero admitted they needed a win at all costs in order to redeem themselves from their disappointing goalless draw against Gambia at the weekend.

Bafana continued their dominance over the Angolans with a 2-1 win in their friendly international at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday - courtesy of Thamsanqa Gabuza and Ayanda Patosi strikes.

The Ajax Amsterdam ace hinted their game plan changed to a defensive one immediately after their second goal, as they intended to win the encounter.

“I think it was a difficult game for us despite a win,” said Serero.

“I also think that we needed that win most and the guys really came through and the support was also massive for us.

“We knew that we had to score goals heading into the game and as soon as we scored the second goal, we started falling back and we were defending.

“Because we didn’t want to lose the game, but what’s most important is that we managed to win.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
