SAFA unimpressed by Egypt

Johannesburg - The South African Football Association have scoffed at Egypt's request to postpone the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifer between the two nations.

According to the Pharaohs assistant national team coach Hamada Sedki, the Egyptian FA planned on sending a written request to the Confederation of African Football for the AFCON showdown to be pushed back until June due to the political turmoil unfolding in the North African nation.

But SAFA are loath to tinker with the original March 26 date, saying that they would be surprised if CAF or FIFA permitted a change.

"In matters like these, FIFA and CAF do not usually postpone matches," SAFA communications director Morio Sanyane told Business Day.

"They usually take matches like these to neutral venues if the home team is unable to meet guarantees around security.

"In this case the match is not in Egypt and will take place in SA. Anyway, what we know is that the game is still on."
