SAFA set to axe Mosimane?

2012-06-04 10:57

Cape Town - The South African Football Association is set to hold an emergency meeting on Monday where the fate of Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane will be sealed, according to reports.

This following Bafana Bafana's 1-1 draw with Ethiopia in a 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The Ethiopians nearly compounded more misery on the struggling hosts, who are now winless in seven matches, and were 13 minutes away from a stunning result in a match marred by poor local attendance.

The visitors took a half-time lead courtesy of Saladin Said, who powered a shot into the roof of the net in the 28th minute.

Said dispossessed Tsepo Masilela before scoring the shock goal to the delight of their impressive fan base at the Phokeng venue.

Against the run of play, and having been outclassed, the disjointed Bafana outfit equalised late in the second half through Katlego Mphela in the 77th minute.

South Africa's next fixture is another tricky encounter away to Botswana in Gaborone on Saturday.

SA assistant coach Steve Komphela is expected to replace Mosimane.

    The Circus continues

      poloyatonkim - 2012-06-04 11:18

Agreed, I cant wait for the best clowns to perform.

      Wimpie.Haefele - 2012-06-04 11:48

They should have axed him long ago because he is going to be the reason we dont qaulify for the next world cup, replace him with Ingesund. Pitso do not know how to get a team to work as a cohesive unit, tackling was shocking with passes going no where or straight to the other team. I still think our biggest problem is the lack of a world class striker.

Is it not funny that the guys in power protect themselves, fire the couach fire the next coach while they stuff their pockets with monthly administration fees. It would seem that it is time for the Minister of Sport to come and kick the whole lot out, and change the soccer constitution that a board member can not sit for longer than 3 years. And that bonuses and salaries are endorsed by the Department of Sport.

      @Geoff - what a MINDLESS, STUPID comment!

      ditantane.kganakga - 2012-06-04 14:00

Geoff - please find a hobby, and for your information Bafana had white coaches before, most black owned PSL teams are managed by white coaches, so please

      sabongam - 2012-06-04 14:32

SAFA should let sense prevail by appointing Gordon Igesund to the Bafana head coach position...His record speak volumes winning the PSL titles with 4 different teams and then saving Moroka Swallows from relegation to taking them to a 2nd place finish this season... Now, with all his excuses and spin doctoring abilities, Pitso Mosimane on the other should be appointed as Bafana's PR manager or maybe be appointed as the team's reserve water boy.

  • sthembiso.msindo - 2012-06-04 11:09

hire Igesund or Hunt plz, if u got the iterest of the nation at heart, Pitso is full of excuses he is useless

  • lepara.lenyora - 2012-06-04 11:12

he was not supposed to get the job in the first place!, so he just have to pack his stuff and vacate the post.

      Koos - 2012-06-04 11:16

      Golden handshake coming up.

  • Konapi - 2012-06-04 11:17

Igesund or Hunt please not Steve.....its too early for him...he still need to learn. Anyway anything is possible with the likes of Nemathandani.....just wondering what team he was playing for.

  • zingolucious - 2012-06-04 11:17

Pitso is a disgrace n his Stupid excuses. He must Leave immediately.

  • poloyatonkim - 2012-06-04 11:19

Gordon Igesand must replace Pitso, yet again SAFA is big joke.

  • Ziggamann - 2012-06-04 11:20

good riddance power of the social media comrades

  • victor.freeman.39 - 2012-06-04 11:20

It's time for Gordon Igesund to take over.

  • Mark - 2012-06-04 11:31

I think safa hired khompela on purpose to take the post. hope he will take us to 2014 world cup at least.

  • VaMbozha - 2012-06-04 11:33

as long as Pitso is still there then expect more misery in Gaborone!

  • pvancoller1 - 2012-06-04 11:35

sack that idiotic man and hire Gordon Igesund

  • Thapelo - 2012-06-04 11:36

First, he cant read the rules and blames other people, secondly, he plays Pienaar out of position, thirdly, persists with Khuboni, forthly, brings Manyisa and Teko very late, fifthly, he leaves a destroyer on the bench, Jali. The man must simply do an honourable thiong and resign. He says "what can I do". He has ran out of ideas, tthat is why Khoza got rid od of that brazilian having said similar words when the going got tough.

      William - 2012-06-04 12:50

The Brazillian ran out of ideas because the team is a joke. The Brazillian was a successful international coach who failed with bafana bafana. They can't play soccer and that's it! Pitso should not be blamed solely. PROFESIONAL players should know how to perform, the coach shouldn't be there running with them on the pitch telling them what to do. Does your boss spoon feed you at the office? No you are a professional and know what to do. All we need is a brand new team with competitive players based on merit and not favouritism.

  • J.D. - 2012-06-04 11:37

So why is everybody blame it all on the coach only not on the players also. He cannot win the bloody matches from the sideline. They must play their part. I can just think how difficult it must be with these arrogant guys.

      Tubbie1 - 2012-06-04 13:57

J.D you can not blame players for poor performance you can only drop the player, if a coach can't get his players to play to win its his fault, if a team doesn't need a coach we would not hire coaches. Just like jomo pitso doesn't deserve to coach SA neither is Steve or any other SA coach, our top coaches need to go be assistants to other big coaches around the world not only will help the SA team the psl as well we need a world cup winning coach and that coach needs to be given a lengthy contract.

  • Jonathan Rose - 2012-06-04 11:37

Even if they fergie ,mourinho or guardiola they will remain useless.i might be a bit harsh, but the fact remains we don,t have the talent at the moment,at least not these bunch of clowns

      Jonathan Rose - 2012-06-04 11:44

Even if they hire fergie..etc is what i meant

      Tankiso Mogoje - 2012-06-04 12:00

You are not being harsh Jonathan,we are too weak. These boys think that by playing for Chiefs,Pirates or Sundowns it means you are a top player and tend to relax.

      William - 2012-06-04 12:57

I could not agree with you more except that there are talented players in the country, but due to politics our soccer will remain at the bottom and more will find it a mission to attend a match. The whole of SAFA should resign and the current team fired. A brand new team based on merit and not favouritism should be selected.

  • Ashwin - 2012-06-04 11:41

fire the team - all of them.

  • bexin.mabuza - 2012-06-04 11:56

  • Millos Mpofu - 2012-06-04 12:04

BAFANA BAFANA is a national team for South Africans not for BEE KOPHELA shall do the same as Pitso , GORDON IGESUND is the answer for South African to go to Brazil

  • lonwabo.ramorwalo - 2012-06-04 12:04

    get rid of him asap

  • bonga.sikhakhane - 2012-06-04 12:06

Pitso has had enough time to prove himself bt he failed the country let sum1 else take over we had enough of no win n we might not qualify for world cup in 2014 in Brazil if he is still the head coach so I think he must go

  • Mncedisi Mnguni - 2012-06-04 12:07

It is not really a matter of talent or lack thereof, Gordon Igusend achieved a remarkable feet with less expensive and acclaimed players than that of Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns...Relatively,we have the best squad assembled since the 2002 World Cup but we lack a domineering coach who can get the best out of them-this is where Mr Igusend will come into play(an experienced and respected South African coach with 4 PSL titles under his belt). We tried the PDI coach thing and so far have failed.

  • Leonard - 2012-06-04 12:10

Don't worry .They will give the job to "KFC" Jomo Sono.

  • georgebrightons - 2012-06-04 12:17

Long over-due! I knew it will end up like this.

  • Bulumko - 2012-06-04 12:29

When I saw the \Breaking News\ sign on sport24, I thought it was going to read \SAFA have fired Pitso Mosimane\...Eish you should have seen my disappointment when it said something else:( PITSO MUST GO!

  • Keratilwe - 2012-06-04 12:50

This is the time when Pitso must leave. Give Khompela and Igesund a chance to take us to the next World Cup. Thank u for nothing Pitso RIP

  • Khayoh Mfiswah - 2012-06-04 12:51

Gooooo Pitso go. Komphela must take over as a head coach

      Sithembiso - 2012-06-04 13:12

How long Safa keep somebody who always plays draws on the streak.Safa is a disgrace to football fraternity.Clive Barker has outstanding record because of selfishness they fired him without giving him a chance.

  • Jonathan - 2012-06-04 12:53

    It's by time!!! He's the PITS !!!

  • jeffrey.mnisi - 2012-06-04 12:53

Let the bast@rd go. shame, he had to be forced to replace not on form T Maselela for ever performing Punch because of injury. If it was not for the injury, we wouldn't have drawn. selfish, unpatrotic coaches aare killing soccer. 30 min of play Punch man of the Match. Shame Pitso.

  • mohlalefi.saohatse - 2012-06-04 12:56

It is clear that Pitso is thinking to himself to be bigger than the SA soccer squad, arrogance, poor selection and the defense on mediocrity. We are blessed as a country to have the likes of Kompela sitting as an assistant with such robust talent and the knowledge so is up to SAFA to do the right thing, allow Kompela to take over and as for Pitso, I know Jomo Sono need the coach.

  • jeffrey.mnisi - 2012-06-04 12:59

igusend is the Man. Jomo suicide.

  • Chris Malandelwazintombi Languza - 2012-06-04 13:00

its a pity that Gordon is white. racist SAFA!

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-06-04 13:03

About time. Pitso u nt bigger than our football as u thnk. Why nt sack hm now ths arrogant man? Eish SAFA

  • Leonard - 2012-06-04 13:10

    SAFA IS A JOKE HAHAHAHHAHA

  • Paul - 2012-06-04 13:12

only Gordan Igusand will sort out the "glamour boys" hard work not jewelry and flashy cars -the country needs dedication from the 1st minute! strange how quotas in sport never effect soccer???? When we won CAF Cup in the good old days - whitey's were around to cement the team, now its a Blackman game played by black-men watched by black men for black men...... ViVa Botswana Viva! No favours in Africa as Mrs Zuma no jobs for pals....hard graft!

      nntsasa - 2012-06-04 13:18

why have you not mentioned any of your white players that you think deserve to wear Bafana jersey. please support your statements, you have a problem however you are not suggesting a solution. Who is being left behind Paul?

  • nntsasa - 2012-06-04 13:12

how many times must a coach be fired or replaced before we see the real problem. Our SA player cannot cut it internationaly, bring Gordon, Hunt, we will see. We can fill all available blogs about Pitso but we do not have players that cut it outside the borders of SA. Look at the history of SA players, it speaks for itself.

  • Lita - 2012-06-04 13:14

Pitso salvage what little is left of ur pride and fall on ur sword...it's time u called it a day !!

  • maama.bujju - 2012-06-04 13:20

i did mention and i was expecting these results they were even better tjhe way i see things on my side mosimane isnt a winning material coach he is just a boasting boss his just happy about the ingredients bt not the job, bafana bafana is too big for him better offload it from as early as you can.unless South Africa can combine the foreugn nationals or the xperienced players it wil never win nything .

  • Paco - 2012-06-04 13:21

Safa are practising their own quota system ,if you black no matter hoe useless you are as a coach manager or player you will be selected, please bring back Clive "the dog" Barker

  • Niel - 2012-06-04 13:24

LEAVE COLOUR. Get rid of this idiot and select the best person for the job irrespective of colour

  • Milano - 2012-06-04 13:30

1st of all whoever chose rusternburg to host that match is very stupid or maybe he was bribed. And as for Pitso he needs to attend self believe classes cause he always thinks and talks low he doesn't believe in his squad......let me ..comment further not next coach please and let it be Gordon or Garvin

  • luvo.luvos - 2012-06-04 13:31

Sooner rather than later. Let's face it, Pitso's style of football is the most drab of any coaches before him and is very conservative in his approach. I suggest that they use the Bafana dvds to cure insomniacs as watching the footage would surely drive anyone to sleep!!

  • mapudieric.morakiwamachacha - 2012-06-04 13:35

at last common sense dictated, i hope kompela wil b a manager 4 tym being as talks wth gordon igesund progress. Wel dne safa nd gud luck 2 gordon nd de boys @ 2014 swc

      Mohlasedi - 2012-06-04 18:06

Steve khompela failed at under 23.where has shakes mashaba or clive Barker failed?

  • Heiku - 2012-06-04 13:36

I was in Ethiopia recently.... I cannot believe that we cant beat them. It doesnt look like anything is organised there and I didnt see one single soccer pitch in a 10 hour drive through the country

  • attie.snyders - 2012-06-04 13:43

SAFA do the right thing, give Pitso and his technical team their marching orders. Give Gavin Hunt the opportunity to lead our country to glory days. The stadiums will be full again.

      emmanuel.manu.18 - 2012-06-04 14:47

U gt ma vote bru dts true

  • thamsanqag - 2012-06-04 13:48

From the time Pitso claimed to be the best coach in s.a I knew that he's time was up. Arrogance is that disgusting and if he remains he will continue on the downward spiral, sadly he'll drag da team along.

  • Lee - 2012-06-04 13:59

    Hire Benni!

  • Vincent - 2012-06-04 14:18
