Johannesburg - In a bizarre turn of events, South Africa’s international friendly against Tanzania has been re-scheduled for the second time in as many days.
The SA Football Association said in a statement on Friday that the game would be held in Dar Es Salaam on May 14, the original date selected for the fixture, on request of the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF).
The hastily organised match, which Bafana Bafana will use as a warm-up for their crucial AFCON qualifier against Egypt next month, was postponed by two weeks on Thursday.
“SAFA and the TFF have agreed to reinstate the original date of the match,” SAFA said.
“TFF secretary general Angetile Osiah says due to unforeseen logistical challenges regarding the postponement of the match, reinstating the original date was the best option for both parties.”
The match will clash with the Nedbank Cup semi-final between Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces in Soweto, which will be played on the same day. The other semi-final between Baroka FC and Black Leopards is scheduled for the following day.
The postponed fixture, on May 28, would have clashed with the cup final.
South Africa’s head coach, Pitso Mosimane, was expected to announce the Bafana squad next Thursday, but SAFA said the team would be named on Monday.
