SA set to host Cosafa Cup

Cape Town - South Africa are set to step in for Botswana as hosts of the troubled regional soccer tournament, the 2014 Cosafa Cup.

South Africa are reportedly keen to host the event according to the Sowetan, with a decision on the event expected this week.

The event will take place in either in 2015 with November or December being touted as potential dates for the tournament.

The Cosafa Cup has a checkered past, often suffering from a lack of financial backing which meant that the tournament was not played 2011 and 2012 due to a lack of sponsorship.

The Cosafa Cup was not held in 2010 due to South Africa hosting the Soccer World Cup.

Shakes Mashaba will be hopeful that PSL clubs will release their players for the event but this has been a contentious issue in the past.

South Africa last won the event in 2008 and finished in third place in both 2013 and 2009 versions of the event.
