Polokwane - Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha will have the honour of welcoming Bafana Bafana and Congo on the pitch ahead of the much anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night (20:05 kick-off).
Bafana and Congo will renew their rivalry in the top-of-the-table clash.
Mathabatha has urged Polokwane fans to buy their tickets in time and go out in full numbers to support the national team.
“We want to see Peter Mokaba exceeding the numbers we saw in Brazzaville over the weekend,” said Mathabatha.
“That means buying tickets in time.”
Bafana will be boosted by the return of Bongani Ndulula, Andile Jali and Eric Mathoho after the trio missed Monday’s training due to minor concussions sustained in the 2-0 victory in Pointe-Noire.
History favours Shakes Mashaba’s team heading into this encounter as they aim to grab the maximum points to book a place in next year’s continental showpiece in Morocco.
Bafana have never lost a match in Polokwane, which includes the famous 2-1 triumph over Ivory Coast in 2003, in the 2004 AFCON qualifiers, under Mashaba’s second spell in charge.
Goals from Siyabonga Nomvethe and Shaun Bartlett enabled South Africa to advance to the 2004 tournament held in Tunisia.
Bafana Bafana starting XI:
Senzo Meyiwa (captain), Sibusiso Khumalo, Eric Mathoho, Rivaldo Coetzee, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Dean Furman, Andile Jali, Mandla Masango, Thulani Serero, Tokelo Rantie, Bongani Ndulula
Substitutes:
Darren Keet, Siyabonga Nhlapo, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Tefu Mashamaite, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Oupa Manyisa, Kermit Erasmus
