Polokwane set for Bafana, Congo duel

Johannesburg - SAFA has confirmed that the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane will host the AFCON qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Congo.

According to SAFA’s official website, the match will be the return leg following the game which will be played in the Congolese coastal city of Point Noire on Friday, October 10 with that game scheduled to start at 15:30.

Five days later on Wednesday, October 15 in Polokwane, Bafana will hope to get a positive result to ensure that they can compete in Morocco next year January and February for the AFCON title.

It has also been revealed that coach Shakes Mashaba will announce his squad for the Congo ties next week and the 64-year-old is relishing the prospect of bring national football to Limpopo.

“I am glad to take the match to Polokwane.”

“The people of Limpopo have never disappointed whenever Bafana Bafana play in Polokwane and we expect another bumper crowd on 15 October,” said Mashaba.

After the opening two rounds, South Africa are in second position in their Group A following a 3-0 win over Sudan in Khartoum and goalless draw in Cape Town against a stern Nigeria.

Congo, with two wins from their two games, are in first place while the Super Eagles, who gained one point from the draw against South Africa in Cape Town, find themselves just one point better than Sudan who are in last position.
