Player ratings: Bafana v Ivory Coast

Cape Town – Sport24 rates the Bafana Bafana players' performances against Ivory Coast in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

As it happened: Bafana v Ivory Coast

Following Bafana’s unbeaten run in AFCON 2015 qualification, coach Shakes Mashaba was eager to keep the momentum going when South Africa hosted a below-par Ivory Coast at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

South Africa began the encounter on the front foot and had the ball in the back of the net within two minutes after some slick interplay between Vuyisile Wana and Bongani Zungu led to Puleng Tlolane slotting home from close range. The linesman unfortunately ruled out Tlolane's effort after the striker strayed ever so slightly offside.

Bafana Bafana had to wait until the thirty minute mark to make their dominance count. Bongani Zungu broke the deadlock when he slotted home from close range with left back, Patrick Phungwayo, providing the final pass.

David Zulu doubled the lead in the second half ensuring Bafana Bafana remained unbeaten under Mashaba.

Mashaba's Sunday was capped off when he was named the SA Coach of the Year at the annual South African Sports Awards.
