Pitso hits out at Hunt

Pitso Mosimane (Gallo)

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has slammed Gavin Hunt, his successor at SuperSport United, with the cutting comment "we decide who is fit enough to play for the country and not SuperSport", according to a report on the Sowetan website.

Mosimane was reacting to a statement credited to Hunt in which the United coach said blossoming Bafana central defender Bongani Khumalo had been ruled out of the friendly match against Ghana at Soccer City on August 11 due to injury.

Hunt reportedly added that Khumalo has damaged his ankle ligament and would be out of action for at least two weeks.

"I thought everyone was aware of the procedure that is implemented internationally in such instances," said the irritated Bafana coach.

"The club can report an injury to us. But from that point on we examine the medical evidence provided by the club, call in our own doctor to confirm any diagnosis and only then do we decide whether the player is fit enough."

This, it would seem, fuels the simmering suspicion that while Mosimane and his United's successor might not be the best of enemies, there is a simmering coolness in regard to the relationship between the two high-profiled coaches.

for those of you, i dont think gavin actually wanted the job, even if was offered, just like gordan, etc etc......
Joaquim8/4/2010 10:45 AM
Why the fuss? After all who pays Bongani's salary?Pitso just do your job......and shut up....
Roger8/4/2010 10:33 AM
You've been selected, Pitso, so good luck. You can only do your best
Mabheka8/3/2010 4:23 PM
Its either u like it or not Gavin, Pitso is the head coach and he is the right man for the job so whatever u guyz are saying about Pitso is absolutely r***b****sh.
Thulani8/3/2010 3:18 PM
I couldn't agree more with "South African". In fact South African is spot on, and it's unfortunate when the so called professional coach doesn't understand the procedure that's followed when a player is reported injured. In my view I think Gavin is still bitter about not getting the Bafana job. I also think that we need to be open minded and respect the fact that Pitso is not going anywhere, and we can work ourselves up if we want to but it doesn't change anything unfortunately. Gavin might be overestimated a bit by some people. Gordon has also won the league three times, and sois Ted Dumitru. What criteria are people using here? Swallows was falling apart straight after Gavin left them and the next guy had to start all over, so how is Gavin the best coach. I also hope that the media are not blowing the story out of proportion, and Pitso and Gavin will have to iron out their differences for the nterest of the country, i.e. PSL coaches should be talking to the Bafana Coach and vise versa.
South African8/3/2010 1:42 PM
I think the media is playing with our emotions and evrybody fell for it. Pitso statement had nothing to do with his ability to coach BB and his arrogans but everything to do with FIFA procedures that we all have supported previously when playes like bennie didnt pitch for BB. All of you who dont like Pitso as the BB coach please get over it, the man is going to stay until they replace him (whenever that happens) and he wont be the first coach to be replaced, and if it happens that Hunt replaces him that Hunt will build on Pitso's success like he did at SS. Yes Hunt has won the League Back-to-back nut we must all remenber that it was Pitso who laid the foundation for him and i dont remeber Hunt laying a solid foundation anywhere!
Bafana for life!8/3/2010 10:36 AM
Football is business. A player is an asset. SuperSport are protecting their asset - why wouldn't they? Pitso is flexing his muscles - why wouldn't he? But it all depends on the relationship between club and association - Pitso can still call the player up, have him checked and then decide if he wants to play him or not - this depends on what type of relationship he wants with SuperSport going forward! Personally, I would like to see Pitso announcing that he is going to give some fresh new faces a chance in these friendlies - so we can see what depth we have. Where are the U20's who did so well recently?
Biggy Smallz8/2/2010 2:47 PM
lolo, you're! Those who read Gavin's comment on this site will remember that it was an honest [maybe innocent] opinion by Bongani's coach, whom i presume knows his player's condition bcoz he's training him & trusts his club Dr's opinion. I predict a further Pitso/Gavin saga ignited by the press rather than a promotion of good working relations between the 2 since they'll be working together at some point - if Gavin is still 1/3 of SAFA's "3 wise man"
EDWARD8/2/2010 2:36 PM
NO matter what Hunt is a coach he know what he said about his players.
Pitso,Bafana supporter8/2/2010 9:00 AM
Pitso, let them talk thats what they are good at. nywerenywere. no one believed that our previus coach would turn they boys around , and he did.Pitso you will take our Boyz to another level. I will suport you all the way.
Mazi8/1/2010 12:23 AM
Just Like those who wished South Africa to fail in organising the FWC, and advising the tourists to buy stab vests, you will eat humble pies because you will once more be proven wrong and silenced by the success of the coach. Shut your big mouth and watch the space. Fool!!
Bongani7/31/2010 1:56 PM
This pissing contest between club and national coaches plays itself out all the time, all over the world.Unfortunately for Gavin,as much as i like him as a coach,he's wrong on this one.The player has to be assessed by the BB technical and medical teams, period.
glennm7/31/2010 1:53 AM
Another clown in the making....Hunt is by far the better coach. But of course once again its the AA thing. This is so detrimental to SA sport. Wake UP and realise that sport is sport and not your f@#$%^^&G political playground
psa7/30/2010 10:05 PM
Lekua, what in the hell are you talking about?
Joseph7/30/2010 9:39 PM
I think Pitso is the right man to coach BB as he had been there as Assistant without a say but now he had a full say/control over the players. He should be given the chance to do the job as local
Aaron7/30/2010 9:25 PM
Pitso u will take us no where.
Cious Mashiya7/30/2010 6:47 PM
people lets support each one another, stop blaming, its too early for this please
WAG7/30/2010 5:18 PM
Can u all leave Gavin alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Orifile7/30/2010 5:02 PM
@ Lekua - Nobody makes any mention of the rape, pillage and EXTERMINATION of the actual natives of southern africa, the koi-san, by the bantus who migrated from north-west africa now do they? You are a brain-washed product of a generation of uneducated, lazy people who nothing to struggle against other than the corrupt, self-serving leaders they follow without any material reason. Shut the eff up, get an education and do something positive for this land rather than harping on about past injustices. And by the way Zille is a struggle hero, no need to cut her down...
Bucs Faithful7/30/2010 4:33 PM
Surely there are people who don't wanna see Pitso shining as a national local coach. When things go wrong they will be the first ones to point fingers at Pitso forgetting coach like Hunt who hold on players just disrupt national team's plans. What l know for a fact about Pitso is that he has sharp eyes for talent. As much as he know about negative mindset of coaches within PSL Pitso will get BB into the grove without relying on certain players. Gavin must understand that Pitso is BB boss. Pitso turned Supersport into giant killers during his time as the coach and he is yet to do the same with BB, and then Hunt might step after Pitso is gone. Hunt will always be like a back wheel ever following and that is frustrating him.
BongoMan@Lekua7/30/2010 3:15 PM
Hey Lekua, you must be totally exhausted after that tirade of yours. You sound like a real frustrated bitter man, and now I bet you are totally exhausted after making sure, then double sure that you did not make any spelling mistakes in your silly article. You smoking the same stuff as Pitso?
@Lekua7/30/2010 3:04 PM
how did you manage to turn rhis into a race thing?? are you that insecure?
Koos7/30/2010 2:30 PM
If all coaches had been given a fair chance for the job these things would not be happening. One thing for sure it will be the responsibility of the clubs to provide quality players to the national team. All cooperate
LAUGHING STOCK OF A COACH7/30/2010 1:28 PM
sorry gents but the clubs own the heart and souls of these players...in the end khumalo can decide if he wants to be a bafana bafana player or not, supersport pays his long term salaries safa only pays for the fish $ chips...if bongani feels he is not ready to play then the decision must be with him in the end as he has a family to look after and needs the money every month from supersport to put a 2 litre coke and brown loaf on the table so its is his decision
whatthefcuk7/30/2010 1:23 PM
@ Lekua - are you really as stupid as your comments suggest you are?
monster7/30/2010 12:55 PM
Mosimane, you are not even half the coach that Gavin Hunt is!!! He would be on a par with Clive Barker as the best coach Bafana have had since 1994. Let Gavin be the judge of whether his players are fit or not..Mosimane must somehow focus on getting Bafana to the 2014 SWC !!!
@ lekua7/30/2010 12:31 PM
???????? what are you smoking,that sh&t must be good.You sound like a a drunk politician.LMAO!!!!!!!!
DC@Bongoman7/30/2010 12:12 PM
Whiskey,Brandy,Blue Top. These could be the most compelling reasons. staying at all those hotels where the taxpayer pays for everything, my eyes would also be red!!!
Lekua7/30/2010 11:43 AM
If football had anything with the ability to speak and write in perfect English, England would be world cup champs. So the arrogance of those who judge language competence in football-related comments is amteurish, irrelevant and downright stupid. But then again the descendents of the British colonisers have no repentance for the damage caused by the rape, torture and murders committed by the ancestors in pursuit of the African land and mineral resources. That is precisely why they have the audacity to comment on the Zim political scenario for which they must take the larger part of the blame than Mugabe and their puppet, Tsangarai. This tendency of silencing people because they have not perfected the foreign language is often used especially by Hogarth (Sunday Times) to suggest the ANCYL leaders are not intelligent. When Hellen Zille mispronounces the Zulu words in pursuit of cheap political points, she is applauded for trying. I personally like Afrikaners more than the English simply bercause they are direct and forthright. One knows where they stand with them. No sarcasm, no bullshit! If you make a gramatical error in your attempt to converse with them in Afrikaans, they appreciate your effort and embrace you. they never judge you. The ability to speak fluent English must be mistaken to mean one is intelligent though it may be one of the many indicators. So let's talk football - the universal language of the world.
Shinga7/30/2010 11:36 AM
WELL DONE PITSO !!!! Brilliant coach cos he is going to pick injured players, and then more than likely blame Gavin when Bafana loose ...etc etc etc Hunt doesnt take sh&t from players so thats why he wasnt selected as he is no puppet ... best of luck Puppet Pitso
Klouey7/30/2010 11:26 AM
I'm sorry "LAUGHING STOCK OF A COACH", but your wrong, go read FIFA regs. don't make silly comments when you don't know the rules.
lolo7/30/2010 11:24 AM
It would be better if you guys created this kind of nonsense between two coaches represinting clubs in the PSL. Say between Chiefs and Pirates coach or sundwons coach. That would have sold a lot of tickets for the charity spectacular and the game in general. But what you guys are trying to do is create unrest between people who needs to work together to achieve something better for the country. At the end of the day Pitso will have to talk to Hunt about some of the players he needs from Supersport for the national team. I have been saying it all along that you news24 guys are anti-South Africa.
Fani Nkwinika7/30/2010 11:20 AM
It is clear that Mr Hunt hunted Pitso's Post no wonder he is beving Selfish animals.
Sithembiso7/30/2010 11:18 AM
Remember in the camps leading to World Cup...Parreira and Pitso went behind the back of team doctor to get medical reports from other doctors about fitness of players. Looks like he learned all the bad tricks from his mentor. Why not belive the medical report from Supersport team doctor. A X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI scan will not divulge different results from the one submitted by Supersport, why pick injured players?????
Andy7/30/2010 11:06 AM
Pitso six month and you will be assistant coach
Fani Nkwinika7/30/2010 11:02 AM
Hunt hunted Pitso's post no wonder he is behaving like hungry animal
DeonL7/30/2010 10:55 AM
It sounds like wasting money to get a second opinion, the player will clearly be afraid to play to his full potential even if he gets cleared now.
Bucs Faithful7/30/2010 10:45 AM
Gavin Hunt is a coward who wanna see Pitso fail bcos he was desperate for that job. BB has a medical team who should be the ones to judge whether Bongani Khumalo is fit or not. I do agree with Pitso. In future if Supersport players are left out Gavin Hunt will be the one to cry about his players being overlooked.
cas@LOLO7/30/2010 10:36 AM
I fully agree, the media has been doing this for years now.The statement was credited to HUNT what nonsense is this , its either he said it or not, and if he said it in what context did he say it.All news 24 wants is for us to place comments on this website . MORE money for them at all cost. I never use to believe Malema when he said that the media is the cuase most problem in the country.NOW i do. Sorry Malema
BongoMan7/30/2010 10:36 AM
Why is Pitso's eyes so red?
koogirl7/30/2010 10:34 AM
LAUGHING STOCK OF A COACH please learn how to write and spell properly. Lolo - i agree media is turning this into some soccer spat.
ike7/30/2010 10:32 AM
@laughing stock: you are a laughing stock! the national federation makes the final decision. your additional comments are irrelevant.
Albert Einstein7/30/2010 10:32 AM
Bit touchy isn't he?
Ntu7/30/2010 10:32 AM
Gavin has an issue with Jignles or is because some media people they were campaigning for him to be coach of Bafana. You can win many trophies with PSL team but that does not guarantee a position as a head coach of Bafana. He must swallow his pride and accept that Pitso is Bafana coach. Also is correct about the procedure of assessing an injured player. Previous there so many instances when a player was injured, the Bafana medical team have to assess that player to corraborate with his team medical staff. I hope Gavin knows that and he has been a coach to psl for so many years and he must respect that
Munya7/30/2010 10:24 AM
@LAUGHING STOCK OF A COACH. You may be wrong on that one. If the game is a FIFA game then SS is compelled by FIFA to release the player. SS dont have the final say. Pitso is right this time arround. unfortunately.
Not a laughing matter7/30/2010 10:23 AM
LAUGHING STOCK OF A COACH ---------0- This is a Fifa sanctioned match.
kaya7/30/2010 10:18 AM
I believe Pitso is doing the right thing to call SA coaches to order. National calling of players should be viewed as a step forward to that play irrespective of injury or sickness. S. african pays nation team doctors to also take responsibilties and play their role actively. My point is that Gavin Hunt should respect and assist the nation coach.
Shilos7/30/2010 10:17 AM
I support Pitso here, the procedure of injured players is well known through out the psl teams, once the player is selected, the bafana medical team will asses him, then after that they can release him, once declared unfit to play, you remember Pienaar, Mccarthy, we used to hear that they are injured, but few days after the report ther respective coaches will play him in the next match, and this was always a problem especially when a South african born is a coach, why dont we respect our own people.
Ali7/30/2010 10:12 AM
And its this kind of thing that will result in the player deciding that enough is enough and make himself unavailable for the national team - and Bafana will be even more useless than they already are...Well Done SAFA!!!!
Bull-Terrier7/30/2010 10:11 AM
"two days" in the job an already the "main man - it is my time". The professional and mature thing would have been to say something along the lines of: "no comment, i'll will take the matter up with Hunt"
@laughing stock7/30/2010 10:07 AM
you are incorrect he is south african if he plays for the national squad they have the final say country comes 1st.
Sameeto7/30/2010 10:06 AM
The guy is stubborn, this is just the start, first of all I don't understand why is he the coach of Bafana with his attitude. Everyone will know now who's the boss, I just recall during his time at Supersport that he used to starts fight, remember Angelo the then Sundows coach (the poor guy was once saved from getting fists from Pitso) and another coach who used to get verbally abuse from this man called Pitso Mosimane was Ernst Middendorp, luckily this time around as long as there are no Maritzburg players on the national team, Ernst will be safe from one and only Mr Pitso Mosimane. Personally I don't like our Bafana coach Mr Pitso for obvious reasons that he cannot deal with people, and what disgusts me most about him is his favouritism, at Supersport he had this favouritism with certain players, at national team he's continuing doing that, trust me. Everyone know that the like of Mphela, Moriri, Gaxa, Mashego, and Katza just to mention a few, these are Pitso's buddies and will all be in a national team and more over in the starting line up, watch the space!!!
Gary7/30/2010 10:04 AM
I get a feeling that Pitso feels threatened by Hunt and anything he says, as he possibly knows who should've been the new Bafana coach !
KB7/30/2010 9:59 AM
what a load of nonsens, "hits out at hunt"??? the guy is making the valid point that there is a FIFA procedure around injured players. why mr editor are you trying to create problems where there arent any?! sies
Joe7/30/2010 9:59 AM
I hope you have the b****s to Irwin and Kaizer that. And ,frankly, i think your b****s will be very small then.
Proudly SA Soccer7/30/2010 9:53 AM

It's game time folks!! This has defn been brewing.
LS7/30/2010 9:30 AM
What a misleading headline! Mercifully, the story was short.
Hoodlum7/30/2010 9:26 AM
Pitso is the man 4 da job & his gona do great.Hunt & Jomo r jelous.
Mcm7/30/2010 9:21 AM
After all that has happened, I thought the world cup would finally ignite the spark of change. Yet SA keeps making the same mistakes, and now we're back at square one. If you think bafana will start winning now well, Im really feel sorry for you. Pitso won't make any change people. But anyway, whatever bafana.
DC-Pitsotheidiot7/30/2010 9:19 AM
If Steven Pienaar is injured at Everton, does he travel for a Bafana match? No, the club advises that the player is injured & he doesnt show. Thereafter, the Football Federation can do as they like. How many times have players done that. Remember Benni? For years, injury was his excuse for not showing up. But the real reason here is that Supersport are close to selling the player to Rangers, therefore thay do not want to risk him.
@LAUGHING STOK7/30/2010 9:17 AM
u clearly have no idea of how football is ran, players yes are contracted to Clubs, but on FIFA days no club can hold the player back from international duty, and besides SAFA pays these players for internationla appearances.. soccer101
nhla7/30/2010 9:15 AM
I agree with Lolo 100%. you media guys have serious issues ! Pitso made a comment that is logical and true.Where's the beef ??? Give us real news please .

Let the games begin. I told yall that with Pitso at the helm, we're in for some interesting times. Arrogant Mourinho-ed comments, insulting his employers, referees and anybody that says something about his team. Should he win against Ghana or keep up some winning streak , hehehehehe! the arrogance grows and we will all be told exactly WHAT IT IS and WHO IS THE SHYYT. and oh! if he has had a blond moment in his comments, he will blame it on people trying to sabotage the nation . I tell you, Petter Divilliers got nothing on Pitso

Gavin will have the last laugh here when he replaces Pitso as coach as it will be a freezing day in Hell before Pitso takes Bafana to greatness...LOL
Zulu boy7/30/2010 9:08 AM
I heard Gaving Hunt in interview on Metro FM and they asked him what he thought of Pitso's appointment and he sounded very bitter and not supportive of the appointment, therefore it wouldn't surprise me if he tries to scupper Pitso's success there.Hunt is overrated, remember while at Swallows and Black Leopards he on many occassions had to be taken out of the stadium when fans bailed for his blood. Chiefs,Sundowns and Pirates have lowered their standards hence Supersport is winning the leagues back to back.Bleddy Agent!
ntshenge7/30/2010 9:02 AM
Hunt is out of order. it is not for him to rule a player for national duty. there are procedures need to be followed and he is aware of that. I think he is bitter that he did not get the job of Bafana Bafana
BUFFOON BOFFOON7/30/2010 9:00 AM

soccer lover7/30/2010 8:57 AM
I think the coach will do himself a huge favour if he doesn't coach the boys in the media. He will have a long wait if he thinks the media is ever going to be complimentary, unbiased or on his side, unless he wins the next world cup and all the matches leading up to it.
Vuvu7/30/2010 8:50 AM
