Pitso hails Teko and Khune

Johannesburg- South Africa boss Pitso Mosimane saluted Soweto stars Itumeleng Khune and Teko Modise for their performances against Sierra Leone over the weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Khune made some crucial stops at the back, while Orlando Pirates playmaker Modise - who was a late replacement for the injured Steven Pienaar - also impressed Mosimane in the 0-0 draw in Freetown.

"I do not like to single out players, but Khune made two brilliant saves that kept us on the game while the much criticised Modise was superb for the full 90 minutes," Mosimane said on Bafana's arrival back at OR Tambo Airport on Monday.

"I always had faith in Modise. Sierra Leone were dangerous on the left and Modise's experience was brilliant in snuffing out the danger from that area of their midfield.

"He showed again he is a top quality player. I knew he would not let me down. If he can come through this tough 90 minutes in Freetown then the PSL will be a piece of cake for him. I am happy to see his confidence is back."

Modise, a two-time PSL Footballer of the Year, has struggled for form since last year's Confederations Cup in June and was recently booed by Bucs fans in an MTN8 first leg semi-final clash with Chiefs.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
