Pitso drops Teko and Katlego

2011-02-03 12:41

Johannesburg - Bafana boss Pitso Mosimane has left Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela out of his squad to face Kenya in Rustenburg on Wednesday.

Both Modise and Mphela have been surrounded in controversy in recent weeks as Modise was reported to have gone AWOL from Orlando Pirates training before he was transfered to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mphela, meanwhile, is refusing to train with the Brazilians as he seeks a transfer abroad.

"We don't condone players who don't attend training sessions, and we don't have room for players who abscond from their clubs in Bafana," said Mosimane.

Another notable absentee is midfielder Macbeth Sibaya, who has been linked with a return to the PSL and has not seen game time in weeks.

Orlando Pirates duo Tlou Segolela and Ruben Cloete have been rewarded for their fine form of late with call-ups to the squad.

Meanwhile, left-back Mzuvukile Tom will replace the injured Tsepo Masilela.

"Four players were recalled from our 'database', and named one new player. We've acknowledged a few players who have been doing well at their clubs, week in and week out," Mosimane added.

"This game is slightly different to the US friendly, because it's the only game we have before Egypt, so we've kept the core of the senior team.

"After Burkina Faso pulled out at the last minute, we hoped to get a North African opposition, and spoke to Libya, and to Burundi, and finally settled on Kenya."

Bafana squad:

Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune, Moeneeb Josephs

Defenders: Aaron Mokoena, Bongani Khumalo, Siboniso Gaxa, Anele Ngcongca, Siyabonga Sangweni, Siyanda Xulu, Morgan Gould, Mzuvukile Tom, Ruben Cloete

Midfielders: Thanduyise Khuboni, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Steven Pienaar, Andile Jali, Matty Pattison, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Daylon Claasen, Tlou Segolela

Strikers: Bernard Parker, Davide Somma, Kermit Erasmus, Thulani Serero

Davide Somma is a hottie, so I don't object :) Although think we need Mphela. Can SABC please NOT make a hash of the broadcast please?

      tshepokg - 2011-02-04 09:41

    Come on Kenya, beat Bobjana

      paulmandlankosi - 2011-02-03 13:20

      Why Bobjana?

      ulstersaffa - 2011-02-03 17:08

who knows what this dude is on about, what a dick!

      Hans-Erik Iken - 2011-02-04 09:35

Do you feel good about yourself with the name calling now? Look at the good things in this man, at least the wannabe diva's are getting sidelined. The national squad can do without prima donna's. Even the biggest names in football in the world would get sidelined if they misbehave this way, so most certainly these guys should be. I love the game but players who do not treat their JOB (because that is what it is for them) with respect should not be playing. So instead of these juvenile comments and one liners try to think of the good. Constructive critcism is good, dumb name calling is wasted time.

      tshepokg - 2011-02-04 09:43

Racists! let him not pull us down comrades. Let's leave the hater alone!!!

  • jimmy ndlovu - 2011-02-03 13:11

  • Erick Ma-E - 2011-02-03 13:14

This a a very strong squad, i'm Happy. As for the exclusion of Mphela and his "Chommie", well done Pitso, illdicipline cannot be condoned. Erick "The Viking"

  • kea.bogatsu - 2011-02-03 13:27

So far so gud...I like this selection, but Mokoena should be left out, or maybe the coach wants to have stability...so happy that the Bad Boys are not included _ Teko & Katlego the TK Duo....

  • SiyaB - 2011-02-03 13:30

Great Squad Pitso. Bt why SAFA does nt try teams like Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal or Ivory Coast those are tough teams it can help us to prepare Egypt game.

      Mxhuma - 2011-02-03 17:26

That is the same question that boggles my mind.

      tshepokg - 2011-02-04 09:45

@ Siya, I believe those big teams are already booked for the day

  • Phineas - 2011-02-03 13:32

Don't be casual in your approach thinking that it is only Kenya, play like it's a final game of world cup. Well done Pitso, we are behind you and Bafana all the way. Big headed ones, like Benni McCarthy, Teko, Katlego, etc do not feature in my vocabulary - it's a stern warning to young & up-coming generation. 4 D's - discipline, determination, dedicated & devoted.

      jmokgotlhoa - 2011-02-03 14:06

what is the difference between dedicated and devoted?

      boyd.lance - 2011-02-03 15:28

A player can be dedicated to the game...and devoted to the team he plays for. Hope this clarifies...

  • Zakhele - 2011-02-03 13:35

As mentioned the only reason Pisto is droping Teko is becaue he is surrounded by controversy. Pisto is taking South Africa Bafana Bafana nowhere. He is just there to enjoy the gravy train. Mr. Krol figured it out that for Orlando Pirates to win he had to drop the guy who derail teh ship. The resulats are the to show. The only that really changed wad down to Krol to say he was getting nowhere with Teko. Pitso you keeping Aaron Mokoena, the Pienaars (whos jobs is to fall to teh ground 25 times as long as they play for Bafana Bafana but play competitively in the very rough and physical English Premiership). Why are you keeping the useless Mokeona? Sir Pitso, don't use your arse use your brain and go ask other coaches how you drop a guy from your starting eleven. You've got to be realistic.

      paulmandlankosi - 2011-02-03 14:22

You are always complaining Zakhele kwenzenjani?

      bnthemba - 2011-02-03 14:30

your spelling or should I say typing is a joke.

  • crazydude - 2011-02-03 13:38

It's a good squad, but Kickoff is reporting that Sifiso Myeni is in the squad, and don't have Xulu is. Which squad is correct?

  • Sinethemba - 2011-02-03 13:46

Wish all the best for Bafana bafana for this match thank you 4rm D.nev.@.

  • mupet-killer - 2011-02-03 14:05

PLEASE GIVE us decent commentary for this match. the representation is poor, only 2 whites. if this was a cricket or rugby squad with only 2 blacks . . . it would be the biggest issue since apartheid. force equal representation across all sports, why must football get away with it? and before anyone gets on my case, i am neither black nor white. i am indian, which means i am objective and not racist. we need to eliminate double standards in sa sport.

      paulmandlankosi - 2011-02-03 14:46

Gone are the days when used to had really good white soccer players like Norman Elliot, Julie Kaplan, Brummie De Leer, Les Groblaar, Stewart Lilly, Mike Lambert, Carlos das Neve, Patrick Wasmut (Sigantsontsho) etc. Those Players used to entertain us but now we only have white cows (izinkomo zabelungu)

      Zondo - 2011-02-03 15:01

We have enough Whites and Darkies playing sports and representing SA very well. Why not fight for the inclusion of Indians in ....."well, all sporting codes"...we have ZERO indians in all our national teams. whats up with that??

      paulmandlankosi - 2011-02-03 15:19

How can I forget Peter Ballack, Jimmy Joubert, Mark Toney, Neil Tovey, Mark Jouberk, Lucky Styliono, Karanjensky, Shane McGregor, Bruce Grobelaar, Gavin Hunt, Gavin Lane, George Kommantarakis etc. I think the question you should ask is why white schools do not take soccer seriously?

      boyd.lance - 2011-02-03 15:34

@paulmanlankosi...respect, you know what you are talking about. I think the squad is very strong. I hope Pattison gets a start to this game. But I'm particularly happy that Thulani Serero has been given a call-up. He's been consistently impressive and a dangerous attacking presence for Ajax.

      ulstersaffa - 2011-02-03 17:15

@paulmandlankosi .....ummm, what white schools? i didnt know there was such a thing. anyhow i play for a club where glen salmon played for and matty Pattison played for. in that leagie there are white and black players that are good enough to go pro but arent given a chance because the club is classified as a 'white club and white league' even tho we have more black players in the league then white. remember there are white sa players playing overseas that none one has heard of because the psl clubs only look at the townships for players, so they go overseas.

      Teko Modise - 2011-02-04 12:24

Are a idian? u only know criket so u must close ur mouse and open u ars

  • Katlego - 2011-02-03 14:05

    Strong squard

  • Leonard - 2011-02-03 14:19

well good luck boys, we are behind you all the way. as for the recent players attitudes and behaviour, not only does it affect you personally, it affects the whole country as a whole. our reputation is at stake. we have so much talent in this country as far as sport is concerned, i wish somebody can teach players to be patient. for one to be trusted with big things, he has to prove it with smaller things. i know most players deserves to go a step up, likes of Mphela. however i believe proper channels and procedures should be followed.

  • Chippa - 2011-02-03 14:19

Now hopfully the SABC will let us fans watch the game!

  • Baalie - 2011-02-03 15:46

But why does he include Kagisho Dikgacoi who doesn't get game time at Fulham? You seem to be contradicting yourself Pitso. Play only those who are performing well for there team at the moment!

  • Zukisani - 2011-02-03 16:55

where is doutie and jimmy tau? please pitso, we are grateful for living teko and mphela out of the team, but you are contradicting yourself you said you what players who are active in their clubs ,but i see bongani, dikgacoi and parker in this squad
