Pitso: Go easy on young stars

Johannesburg - Coach Pitso Mosimane has urged South Africans to be patient with the starlets in the Bafana Bafana squad.

This followed a media enquiry as to whether Orlando Pirates' young midfield gem Andile Jali would start against Egypt in a crucial AFCON qualifier on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was named the best player on the park in Bafana's last match against Kenya on February 9, but Mosimane has hinted he will favour experience against the Pharaohs.

"It is a process. Yes Andile is good. I said it. But yesterday (on Sunday) he had lots of things I needed to sort out with him tactically and technically," said the coach.

"He's got the passion and he's got the energy, you know that, but for international football you need more games, lots of games."

Mosimane added: "It is not only about Andile. There is Thulani Serero, but it is not easy. It is one thing to play in the PSL but another thing to wear the green and gold jersey.

"It is not an easy one hey. You don't want to say Thulani win me the game or Andile win me the game. You don't want to stress the younger ones, you need to give them space to develop and grow."

Mosimane added that he expects Jali, Serero, Daylon Claasen, Sifiso Myeni and Kermit Erasmus, who are all in the current set-up, to play more matches for the Under-23s before he can throw them into the deep end.

"It is very important that they are here with us because we have a vision (Vision 2014), but they must also play for the junior national teams, which will be a good experience before we can give them a full chance at Bafana," he concluded.
