London - Bafana Bafana and Spurs midfielder Steven Pienaar is fit and is set to play for South Africa in a friendly against Kenya next week.
There were reports that a head injury sustained in training for his English Premiership club would rule him out for weeks but these are well wide of the mark Sport24 understands.
Pienaar had suffered a concussion after a clash in training with fellow Bafana star Bongani Khumalo at Spurs Lodge earlier in the week. He was diagnosed with concussion but wasn’t ‘knocked unconscious’ as some reports indicated. He did miss their 1-0 Premiership win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening as a result of the knock.
He is training on Friday with the rest of the Tottenham squad after being assessed by the medical team at the training ground. If he comes through that, then he will be available for their home match against Bolton Wanderers at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
The midfielder has started twice for his new club already while Khumalo as yet has not featured. The central defender was on the bench for the game against Blackburn but is unlikely to play a part this weekend as Michael Dawson returns from suspension.
