Ndulula vows to keep his place

Cape Town - Ahead of their opening round of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers this week, Bafana Bafanastriker Bongani Ndulula has vowed to cement his place in the national team following his first ever senior international call-up.

Bafana will open their campaign away from home against Sudan at the Omdurman stadium on Friday night (19:00 SA time), before meeting Nigeria at the Cape Town Stadium next week Wednesday (20:00).

The AmaZulu goal poacher is expected to lead the Bafana attack alongside David Zulu, Bonginkosi Ntuli and the experienced Tokelo Rantie.

“Drogba” told Sport24 in an exclusive interview that he intends to make his mark if given a chance in the starting line-up by coach Shakes Mashaba.

The duo previously worked together in the national Under-23 colours where the 25-year-old forward scored 15 goals in 14 games.

The Aliwal North-born player hinted that his main objective is to guide Bafana to the 2015 AFCON tournament to be staged in Morocco.

“I don’t want to lie, it’s going to be a tough task to cement a place in the Bafana Bafana first team,” Ndulula told Sport24.

“I’m saying this because everyone in the squad deserves to be in the starting line-up.

“It’s not going to be easy but I will work hard to be one of them.

“And my main goal is to help my country do well.

“I just want to help my country do well on the pitch and qualify for the AFCON tournament next year.

“And if I get a chance I want to score my first goal in the national team colours.”
