Mphela: SWC changed me

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana forward Katlego Mphela has revealed that he will never forget the impact the 2010 Soccer World Cup has had on his life.

Mphela featured in the opening match of world football's showpiece event against Mexico - a match which ended in a 1-1 draw after Siphiwe Tshabalala had spectacularly put the host nation into the lead at Soccer City.

Exactly a year on, Mphela recalls the tournament as being "extraordinary" and "unforgettable", with the Mamelodi Sundowns star insisting that his life has never been the same since.

"It was extraordinary and it was unforgettable not just for the players but for the country and the continent," Mphela told Downs' official website.

"Leading up to the first game the country was filled with a very positive vibe and it gave us the players, the believe that we could conquer the world.

"As an individual those moments changed my life for the better and I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support."
