Teko Modise (Gallo)

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise says that it won't be the end of the world if he doesn't secure a move abroad.

The Orlando Pirates star has recently been linked with a move to a German Bundesliga side along with national teammate Itumeleng Khune.

But while the former SuperSport United man refused to reveal the identity of the club, he confirmed that they had made contact with the Buccaneers over a proposed move.

"For now, I don't really want to comment because I don't know too much about it," he told The Citizen.

"I've heard that a club in Germany is interested but at the moment that's all I can say.

"The only person who really knows what is happening is my coach at Pirates."

But while the 27-year-old admitted that a move overseas would be a dream come true, he said all would not be lost if nothing materialised.

"It's every players' ambition to go overseas but if it doesn't happen then I'm happy to stay here and try to do my best.

"I see myself playing for the national team at the World Cup in 2014 so there are bigger things than just moving abroad.

"We saw that playing in Europe doesn't necessarily mean you will be in the Bafana team but I'm going to work hard and see what happens."

Modise has struggled for form over the past 18 months and had an average World Cup campaign, but he says he was satisfied with his showing.

"We played as a team and I think I did my part.

"We were aiming to get through to the second round but it didn't happen. As a player, I have learnt a lot from that and I have grown mentally from the experience."

Modise also expressed his delight at the appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the new Bafana boss.

"Pitso's a very ambitious coach and the players want to play for him and work hard. We need some continuity so I'm happy that he was given the job."

Teko mfana dont worry what these stupid guys are saying, they have got nothing for themselves and you have made a name for yourself. People who are not succeeding in life are those who always criticize people. I know these guys are kaizer chips supporters and i hate their reasoning mentality. KEEP GOING MFANA, AM BEHING YOU ALL THE WAY. "HOBS YEAYEAH"

@sello7/30/2010 12:56 PM
I teko is such a great player what has him and pirates won over the years.
MGLENZO7/30/2010 11:59 AM
Teko is OVER-RATED!!! he lacks what we call BMT (BIG MATCH TEMPREMENT). True he won SA FOOTBALLER of the year twice WITHOUT winning anything with Pirates, which I wondered how the voting worked??? because a player shoud'nt be only judged on form but he must also be judged on SILVER-WARE won for his team(Food for thought). Anyway I don't see him going abroad because he has proven he does'nt have what it takes to compete in Europe. Up the Bucks!

The morons are having a field day personalizing their comments about poor Teko. I hope God gives the strength to rise from the ashes and once again display his God-given talent. Granted he has been having a lean spell.Good luck Navigator!
Sello7/30/2010 9:13 AM
Despite what they say, Count on us the Bold and the Beautiful to support u all the way. You are our Navigator. We love you Teko
Smo7/30/2010 7:33 AM
Ohh!!pleaseee give Teko a brake, how long people are going to critisize the poor guy..yes we all know that he lost his form but since from last year the critics who are jealous has been on his case as if he's the only one who didn't perform good at the WORLD CUP..There were lot of players who didn't rise to the occasion but because it'sTeko(Orlando Pirates player)everyone doesn't seems to stop..He is a good player and wish he get a contract abroad and perform to his best..they forget he's a 2 time PSL Footballer of the year..I wish him all the best and hope that his form will pick up and show them that no one will bring him down..GOOD LUCK "Navigator"
Ndips7/29/2010 9:12 PM
wat pple are failing to understand is Teko was amazing being an arrogant and selfish on the ball, playing for himself, and these coaches wanted team players and Teko had to try very hard to play a passing game which killed his confidence and now they playing out of posistion he mus be at the center
zane7/29/2010 5:28 PM
he can move to germany and play in the u19 youth league.. he is only good enough at that level
Jay7/29/2010 4:52 PM
Teko must be realistic, he has not performed to an international level in the past 2 years, it all started in GHANA 2008 were it was clear that he was not on the same level as other international players. The Confed Cup exposed him, (Elrio's 40 minutes play and contribution during that tourney far outshine Teko's 360 minutes that he played. WC 2010 was the rubber stamp and clearly confirmed that he is no world beater. Too much was expected too little was displayed by the "young man" mind you he is 27yrs old, I think he is a bit old to dream about conquering Europe. If he does get the move...... goodluck but I do not think he has the qualities of a world beater.
Caiphus7/29/2010 4:50 PM
Teko you drive a bloody nice Car - I don't care where you go I wanna see you on the High way boy
Esingaka Buthelezi7/29/2010 4:43 PM
Ha! ha! ha! Who is interested in Teko? Maybe the Somalia Pirates are interested.
Razeen7/29/2010 4:27 PM
Teko Modise is the most wasteful footballer on the planet. He played horribly at the World Cup, and really doesn't deserve a move to Europe. Any team who buys him and actually plays him will be relegated.
sipho segubudu7/29/2010 4:24 PM
Teko, I dont care what people say mchana, your the best player SA have ever produced, because you don't play for Chiefs, thesewhy they have a problem with u, please show them, go to Germany or wherever and make us proud mchana!
Iggy7/29/2010 4:18 PM
Teko, if opportunity come. Take it baba, ignore all the haters with old mentality that if I support Sundowns or Chiefs then I don't like Pirates player. I think all this hate comments are coming from non Pirates supporters, who have no idea what the meaning of TEAM. I wish you make lots and lots of money while they whinin. Good luck, you have my blessing
keenan7/29/2010 4:18 PM
@lukhanyo: why single out Pienaar when there are 9 other outfield players. A lot of people are too scared to admit when someone or something is not right. From a footballing perspective Teko was not even a factor in the SWC,let alone Bafana. So by you even suggesting that he would surpass Skilo and be the best player at a world cup, my mann im sorry to burst your bubble but you clearly not living on the same planet as us hey. And the fact that you mentioned Pienaars name in a Teko Modise article, suggest u have something against Skilo. Lets face facts, on a good day Teko shouldn't even be playing on the same field as Skilo. Class is permanent my mann!!!!
lolo7/29/2010 4:12 PM
Dont worry Teko you are still our general. i just hope the coach can use you at the centre of midfield where you can do the kind of job that was doen by Xavi for Spain. Dont listen to these plastic supporters, They know nothing about SA soccer. You ae still the best creative midfielder in the country mfana. Bathathe mthakathi.
Tshepang Moteno7/29/2010 4:04 PM
U dont believe in urself Teko admit that ....
Sbuda7/29/2010 4:02 PM
Teko will fail in Europe,he is arrogant,he failed the country in the confed and the world cup.He is not pirates material,as you saw last season he was a bench warmer,so he should fight to be on the starting line up at pirates before he can dream about a move to overseas. He is happy because pitso is the new coach of bafana bafana,he knows that the coach will field him, even if he is not perfoming well, like in the wold cup.
Kev7/29/2010 3:56 PM
No-one wants him overseas because he is crap...plain and simple.
Funeka 7/29/2010 3:50 PM
There is no rush, Modise is stll young and can do more whilst waiting for greener pastures
ct7/29/2010 3:32 PM
Teko, you are just Rubbish!
SIMON7/29/2010 3:32 PM
TEKO MUST REMAIN AT PIRATS NAMA
Toy7/29/2010 3:29 PM
it is because of that sort of mentality that our players aren't world class. More than happy enough being mediocre in a mediocre league and team.
Chado7/29/2010 3:28 PM
Modise... I dont know who is that fools in Germany that is playing with u. but the world saw that you are not World Class material... & u should be happy Pitso is the boss... he thinks the world of you... & will surely select u for the team even if u dont belong there, even if there is millions better than u... it will be good for you to go... so that I can start watching Pirates.
mbodla7/29/2010 3:19 PM
If I were Teko, I would rather stay at Emzansi where Khoza determines and dictates who goes into the starting line-up of both Bafana and Pirates. Teko has been so complacent of late, such one would conclude that he left his footballing shoes/boots at Supersport where he was not treated as a superstar.
SETLATJILE-MAYISHEBE SETLATJILE7/29/2010 3:14 PM
Teko is not being honest, he should be disappointed with his perfomances during the Worl Cup tournament. What he should have learnt if he have is that football is about early release of the ball, accuracy of passes and that is a team sport. Individialism in the mordern soccer is only for the supper genius player, he is not that type of a player. Talent only will not make you a supper star. Good strikers can only flourish on quality and accurate passes in today's football game. Modise was never out of form as many commentators want us to believe. He needs to stop thinking of being the centre of attraction. There are good players like Jali, Mhlongo just to nemtion a few. I hope Players like him and Mashego will start to paly like they are playing for Orlando Pirates or they must GO. We love them, but thye lack respct for supporters. I wish all Buccuners I wonderful season
Harold7/29/2010 3:12 PM
Teko don't go overseas bru. It is windy there and we don't want to see you all over the place.
lukhanyo7/29/2010 3:09 PM
teko my outie those who say you did not perform propably did not watch the world cup i was watching ntwana you were one of the best performers for sa if not the best but what failed the team is that schillo did not pass you the ball maybe he was scared you would surpass him and become the best in the tournament man i believe in you if you leave us and go to german on your return come back to us and you wiil still be the best hail king teko
njabulo clifford mdhluli7/29/2010 3:09 PM
it is fantastic the way teko reveal the truth that he don't no anything about rumours.he i'll remain in S.A.until the germany come up with the altimately decision.thanx.
Jack Daniels7/29/2010 2:59 PM
Nobody wants you..........oh just remembered there is a place for you the ladyboy's team from Bangkok
Uncle7/29/2010 2:54 PM
He is rubbish...go to Siberia Teko...and eat something. Worst player at the SWC.
Mphela7/29/2010 2:40 PM
Teko needs the European exposure[there's however, nothing wrong with PSL experience]. You can tell by the greediness & the lack of composure from the PSL players, very few European players do play for individual praise, they are mentally fit to do their all for the team [although Gyan Asamoah is an exception, he broke my heart]. I suppose their mentality would only be changed by the hard & ill-treatment from the harsh coaches & hooligans/fans in the foreign stadia. Else, they fight the coaches here at home, and go hide in the Kasi shebeens.

I wish all players were like Teko,He doesn't give up, he is quite correct when he say playing abroad does not mean that you will play for Bafana Bafana, I'm confident that if he continues in this manner he will achieve so many things, wish his dream of playing abroad to come true, goodluck Teko!
