Modise back in Bafana squad

2011-08-25 11:52

Johannesburg - Talented Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise has made a return to the Bafana Bafana setup after he was included in the 24-man squad to play against Niger in an African Cup of Nations qualifier next Sunday.

Niger is second on the four-team log two points behind Bafana Bafana who have eight points. A win will see Bafana qualify for the African showpiece.

“We are facing a team that is emotional and believes that they can beat us. They have done well at home so we are facing a very tough battle against Niger in Niger,” Mosimane said.

“We are without a few key players. Steven Pienaar, KG (Kagisho Dikgacoi) and Davide Somma are not part of the squad. But we have the players; we have the ammunition to take on this team.”

“Since we have started this qualification we’ve been top of the group, and we have also not conceded a goal. So we have consistency and we want to maintain this.”

With the MTN8 semi-finals happening this weekend, Mosimane admitted that he is hoping and praying that players do not get injured. Ajax Cape Town, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are the semi-finalists for this tournament.

"Teko Modise" a great footballer and unmatched when at his best, this season he has played about 5 games and we saw some glimpses of the great "Navigator"but for how long, it is too soon for Modise we all saw him on Sunday against Pirates he had some good moments and only played for 60 min, maybe when he is fully fit we can have him back in the team but for now Im not happy with his selection just wonder where he is going to play???

i personally feel that teko modise is overrated. he doesn't posses a dynamic pass that unlocks defences, his shooting is woeful, his movement is alright in the midfield but not aggressive going forward and he lacks self belief. the last point being the most important and the last thing south africa need is a player that slows down the attack when we're going forward. but i guess there's something everyone sees that i don't. good luck teko.
