Cape Town - Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa is looking forward to possibly featuring in what will be the most important game of his career when they face Spain on Tuesday night.
Bafana host the world and European champions in an international friendly at the FNB Stadium.
In an interview on the SAFA website, “Okpara Junior” revealed his delights of being part of the squad to face the best team in the world.
“It is any player’s dream to compete against the best because you learn so much from them and your game improves - and I am no different,” Meyiwa said
“This is a dream come true. I am used to watching these guys on television playing for their clubs - Real Madrid and Barcelona - now to share the field with them feels like a dream.
“This is indeed an exciting period in my career to be facing such great stars. And if you do well against them, even if you don’t win they will respect you.”
Although first-choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is expected to start, the 26-year-old shot-stopper will be confident for a run following his clean-sheet in his first start for Bafana against Swaziland in Mbabane last Friday when Gordon Igesund’s men triumphed 3-0.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Thabo Nthethe and Bongani Zungu grabbed the goals for the South Africans on the night.
It remains to be seen who Igesund will select to start between the sticks for South Africa on Tuesday.
Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00.
