Cape Town - Despite Bafana Bafana’s win over Angola on Tuesday, Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula said that the national team's players were battling to find the desired combinations.
Bafana kept alive their winning record against Angola when they triumphed 2-1 in a friendly encounter at the Cape Town Stadium thanks to goals from Thamsanqa Gabuza and Ayanda Patosi.
However, Mbalula believes that the Angolans were dominant over South Africa on the day with their good combinations as well as their 'perfect positioning'.
Mbalula also said that Bafana players need to be tuned into a line where they will be able to play as a team just like their opponents on any match day.
“I think things aren’t going as planned currently for our team,” insisted Mbalula.
“You could see that the players were not connecting very well on the pitch.
“They missed a lot of chances but I’m quite confident that lots of opportunities would come through going forward.
“Shakes (Mashaba) has the material, we can’t say that we don’t have players because we have quality players in the country.
“So we have to tune them into a line in terms of the system which they can play as a team.
“Look at the Angolans, they really played well as a team and you could see that they know each other and their play and positionings were so perfect.
“I’m confident that if we give our team enough support, they will definitely go far.”
