MEC shocked at Ntuka's death

Johannesburg - The death of former Bafana Bafana defender Jeffrey Ntuka over the weekend came as a shock, Gauteng sport MEC Lebogang Maile said on Monday.

"I was shocked to hear of the passing of Ntuka, but even more disturbed and saddened by the manner in which he lost his life at such a young age," Maile said.

Ntuka was stabbed in the early hours of Saturday at a night-club in his hometown of Kroonstad, in the Free State.

"We mourn with the football fraternity and his family. On behalf of the Gauteng government I would like to convey our most sincere condolences," said Maile.

The 26-year-old soccer player had played for Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport United and had earned five national team caps.
