Johannesburg - A group of vocal supporters gathered at Johannesburg's OR Tambo airport to welcome home Bafana Bafana on Monday.
The South Africans were touching down from Addis Ababa after losing their 2014 World Cup qualifier against hosts Ethiopia 2-1.
The loss also ended their dreams of qualifying for the Brazilian showpiece next year.
However, an appeal lodged with Fifa on Sunday, could see group leaders Ethiopia docked of three points after fielding an ineligible player in their encounter against Botswana. The penalty would see Bafana Bafana back in contention, albeit with a very slim chance.
Fans danced and sang while waiting for the players to enter the arrivals hall.
A large sign reading "We still believe GO BAFANA!!!" greeted the players.
Fans sported the team's national colours and blew their vuvuzelas.
A number of fans also wore the flamboyant headgear associated with South African soccer.
