LOC going all out for Chan

Johannesburg - All stops have been pulled out to ensure the opening ceremony of the African Nations Championship (Chan) 2014 tournament is a memorable event, Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Mvuzo Mbebe has said.

"We have pulled out all the stops for this one," Mbebe said in a statement on Friday.

"As the LOC, we still stand by our promise of delivering a successful tournament to South Africans and the rest of Africa. Part of that is of course an Opening Ceremony that will set the bar for the football action to follow on the pitch.

"We urge Africans to come out in their numbers to witness a spectacular opening to the Orange African Nations Championship 2014."

Chan gets underway on January 11 and runs to February 1, with Cape Town, Mangaung, and Polokwane hosting the event.

The opening ceremony at the Cape Town Stadium which would boast performances by Jimmy Dludlu, The Soil, Zolani Mkhiva and Jessica Mpangeni.

Themed "Celebrating Africa's Home Champions", the opening ceremony aimed to showcase the diversity and beauty of Africa with its fusion of African arts, music and dance.

South Africa were drawn to face Mozambique in the opening match of the tournament, with Nigeria and Mali completing a tough group A.
