MATCH REPORT
SUDAN 0 - 3 SOUTH AFRICA
A great away win for Bafana Bafana, but the score does not show how they struggled in the the first half. Sudan threw everything at Mashaba's men, and had it not been for some woeful finishing and captain Meyiwa brilliant goalkeeping, Bafana might have gone in a few goals down at the break. Rantie also had two very good chances for Bafana that were not taken.
Bafana looked a better team in second half and came out with much more attacking intent. Mashaba was not afraid to use his subs and all of them made a difference, none more than Vilakazi, who scored with his first touch after coming on. He second goal was a thunderous drive that left the Sudanese keeper with no chance. Ndulula finished the scoring after a simple tap in after good work from another sub Manyisa.
Bafana supporters must not get carried away, Nigeria will be a tougher proposition on Wednesday, 10 September in Cape Town.
Make no mistake, this result will give Mashaba and his players much needed confidence. Bafana should be beating a team like Sudan and beating them well, which they have done tonight after a fine second half display.
South Africa scorers: Vilakazi (55', 61'), Ndulula (79')
