Khuzwayo will respect Shakes' decision

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo says he will respect the decision of Shakes Mashaba on which goalkeeper he will pick for the upcoming AFCON 2015 qualifier against Sudan.

South Africa will host the Sudan on Saturday, 15 November 2014 at the Moses Mahbida Stadium in Durban (Kick-off is set for 15:00).

Following the death of goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa late last month, there will be a new last line of defence for the first time in the qualifiers. Meyiwa played all four qualifiers and now Khuzwayo as well as Darren Keet and Siyabonga Mpontshane are vying for the position.

“I have to respect what the coaches decide as to who will be in goals, and again it is not about me but about South Africa." said Khuzwayo according to safa.net.

"If any of the goalkeepers in the squad get a chance to play I will be fully behind them, and similarly I believe if I get the nod they will support me for the sake of the country not for personal gain,” said the young Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper.

Khuzwayo returns to the squad after a long absence after earning his one and only cap in an international friendly match against Equatorial Guinea in January 2012.

“It is going to be a great game, and we are going to give our best because there is so much at stake as we want to qualify for AFCON 2015.

"We are very professional and having defeated them 3-nil away is a thing of the past, it won’t apply here as this is a new game.

"We have to be strong and stick to the basics – what matters is the upcoming match, here and now, not the past one.

“The training has been good so far.

"We are still gelling as a team as there are a few new faces in the squad, including myself (even though I have been here before).

"It is very motivating that I got a call up in the national team and it’s a great feeling being in camp more so at home in KZN.” added Khuzwayo.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana defeated local National First Division side Royal Eagles FC 2-1 on Tuesday evening (11 November). Strikers Lehlohonolo Majoro and Tokelo Rantie scored for the national team.
