Khuzwayo a major doubt for Bafana

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo is suffering with the flu and is now a major doubt to be fit for Bafana Bafana's clash against Gambia on Saturday.

Khuzwayo is the second player in the squad to be struck down with flu after coach Shakes Mashaba confirmed that Thuso Phala was struggling with flu on Monday.

The national team trained on Thursday morning at People's Park but Khuzwayo did not participate.

"Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has been left at the team hotel as he is suffering from a bout of flu" read a tweet of the national team's timeline on Thursday.

Khuzwayo's battle with the flu means that Shakes Mashaba is likely to choose his number one between the two goalkeepers left in the squad - Itumeleng Khune and Jackson Mabokgwane.

Mabokgwane may have the inside track to start for Bafana Bafana on Saturday after the Black Aces goalkeeper captained the side during the COSAFA Cup in May while Khune's 2014/15 season was ravaged by injury.

South Africa face Gambia in their first AFCON 2017 qualifier on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The match kicks off at 15:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
