Khune to lead Bafana against Senegal

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has made seven changes to his side to take on Senegal in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Tuesday.

Itumeleng Khune will keep the armband despite having a poor game in South Africa's AFCON 2017 qualifier defeat against Mauritania.

Mashaba was forced into making several changes in his defence after Eric Mathoho and Rivaldo Coetzee were ruled out of the match with injury. Anele Ngcongca remains in the back four and will be joined by Siyabonga Nhlapho, Mzikayise Mashaba and the 31-year-old Clayton Daniels.

Mashaba has rung the changes in midfield with SuperSport United's Dean Furman dropping to the bench along with Mandla Masango and Thulani Serero.

The in-form Mpho Makola has been handed his Bafana Bafana debut with Bongani Zungu and Daylon Claasen set to start in a new-look Bafana Bafana side.

After a poor showing against Mauritania Tokelo Rantie has been demoted with Sibusiso Vilakazi handed the opportunity to start alongside Thamsanqa Gabuza in attack for the national team.

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium is at 19:00.

Bafana Bafana starting XI:

Itumeleng Khune (captain), Siyabonga Nhlapho, Anele Ngcongca, Clayton Daniels, Mzikayise Mashaba, Mpho Makola, Andile Jali, Bongani Zungu, Daylon Claasen, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Thamsanqa Gabuza

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
