Khune handed Bafana gloves

Cape Town - Shakes Mashaba has entrusted Itumeleng Khune with the job of defending the Bafana Bafana goals against Gambia.

Mashaba elected to go with the experience of Khune over South Africa's COSAFA Cup captain and goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane.

Anele Ngcongca will captain the team from right back. Ngcongca's honour comes shortly after being  named in Racing Genk's Team of the Century by Dutch publication Voetbalkrant.

Rivaldo Coetzee keeps his place in the side and will line up with Thulani Hlatshwayo in the centre of defence.

Foreign-based trio May Mahlangu, Thulani Serero and Ayanda Patosi have been given the chance to impress the local crowd and their coach, while Thamsanqa Gabuza has been chosen to lead the line against Gambia.

The Orlando Pirates striker was a late replacement this week after Tokelo Rantie failed to arrive in camp and now has the opportunity to start for Bafana Bafana as they kick off their AFCON 2017 qualifying campaign.

The match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban kicks off at 15;00.
