Khune hails morale-boosting win

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, hailed a morale-boosting result following his side's 3-0 triumph over 10-man Mauritius.

The hosts cruised to a comfortable win in their 2016 CHAN preliminary round, first-leg tie at Dobsonville Stadium, putting themselves firmly in control for the second leg in Mauritius.

Thamsanqa Gabuza opened the scoring for South Africa before Siphelele Ntshangase netted a brace to give Shakes Mashaba's men a comfortable lead.

While the margin of the scoreline could have and should have been larger, Khune was happy with the result.

"It was very important for us - the win was a morale-booster for us," Khune said.

"This was a very important match; at home we needed to win at all costs. And going away [to Mauritius], it will be very important to win for our nation and qualify for the CHAN tournament."

South Africa will resume hostilities with Mauritius on the weekend of 3-5 July.
