Khune: We fought hard

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana jetted back into South Africa on Monday afternoon, following their 2-1 loss to Ethiopia on the weekend, with goalkeeper and captain, Itumeleng Khune, expressing his disappointment.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, South Africa were defeated by the Black Lions in Addis Ababa, seeing their hopes of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup shattered, with striker Bernard Parker scoring an own goal in the second half to hand the East Africans the victory.

Parker broke the deadlock to put Bafana into the lead in the opening 45 minutes, however Getaneh Gibeto resorted parity ahead of the half-time interval.

Khune admits that Parker’s own goal was unfortunate, explaining that the team gave it their all. He said that they worked hard, although it did not go their way.

“We fought hard. We wanted to win the game. We scored early and we wanted to keep the lead, but unfortunately they equalised before half-time, and then the unfortunate goal by Bernard (Parker).

“Such things happen in football and we were unfortunate to lose. We worked hard but it was not to be,” the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper stated.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
