Igesund names Bafana squad

Johannesburg -  Coach Gordon Igesund has named his travelling Bafana Bafana squad that will be playing in two international friendlies later this month. Igesund named a 26-man squad that will face Poland on October 12 and Kenya on October 16.

The squad was announced on Tuesday at SAFA House in Nasrec, Johannesburg, where a number of changes were made to the squad that took on Brazil and Mozambique last month.

Teko Modise, who was left out of last month’s squad, has been called-up to the team while in-form Maritzburg United midfielder, Delron Buckley, has been re-called to the national set-up. The 34-year-old is arguably the most experienced squad member and will undoubtedly bring stability to the squad.

Following Steven Pienaar’s retirement from international football, the team’s midfield will be reengineered, although the Everton man was not part of last month’s squad that defeated Mozambique 2-0, after losing 1-0 to Brazil.

The team will be leaving for Poland on October 8 and will arrive in Warsaw, via Zurich, on October 9. Following the game on Friday, October 12, the team will leave for Nairobi on the morning of October 13, ahead of the clash with the Kenyans.

Coach Gordon Igesund’s travelling squad:

Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs), Wayne Sandilands (Mamelodi Sundowns), Moeneeb Josephs (Orlando Pirates)

Defenders: Thabo Nthethe (Bloemfontein Celtic), Luvhengo Mungomeni (Moroka Swallows), Punch Masenamela (Mamelodi Sundowns), Ricardo Nunes (MSK Zilina) (Slovakia), Bongani Khumalo (PAOK) (Greece) - captain, Siyabonga Sangweni (Orlando Pirates), Erick Mathoho (Kaizer Chiefs), Bevan Fransman (SuperSport United)
