Igesund might face the axe

Johannesburg - When SAFA employed Gordon Igesund as Bafana Bafana coach last year, he was given a clear mandate - reach the 2013 AFCON semi-finals and qualify for the 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup finals in Brazil, according to the Sowetanlive website.

Igesund has failed the test and SAFA will decide on his future at the end of this month.

Bafana Bafana's hopes of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil ended in heartbreak as a defensive blunder by Bernard Parker gifted Ethiopia a 2-1 win, in their World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday.

"My mandate was to qualify the team for the World Cup and I didn't do that, so I will have to wait and see what will happen as it is no longer in my hands," Igesund said on Monday.
