Cape Town - Moroka Swallows coach Gordon Igesund has cut short his trip in China to fly back to South Africa, increasing the likelihood of him taking over as Bafana Bafana coach from Pitso Mosimane who was fired overnight.
Igesund, 55, and the Dube Birds are currently involved in a four-team friendly tournament in China.
“I can’t say much, we are boarding in two minutes, but yes, I am flying back to South Africa now,” Igesund told the KickOff website.
In a poll currently on the News24 website, Igesund is the overwhelming favourite among the public to take over from Mosimane, with 53% of the current votes cast.
Igesund is the only man to coach four different top-flight teams to the Premier Soccer League title. They were: Manning Rangers (1996/97), Orlando Pirates (2000/01), Santos (2001/02) and Mamelodi Sundowns (2006/07).
